Regulatory UPDATE

When necessary for the safe transport of dangerous goods by air the issuance of an addendum to the 2021- 2022 edition of the ICAO Technical Instructions may occur. This in turn results in changes to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. Attached is the January addendum to the 62nd edition of the DGR.

It is very rare that an amendment makes a change that applies across all of our operators and shippers or applies to your working knowledge, in this case however, one item does in relation to the carriage of hand sanitiser by operators and the classification and shipping of COVID-19.

The ICAO addendum includes:

• the addition of an allowance for operators to carry onboard an aircraft alcohol-based hand sanitisers and cleaning products (DGR2.5); 
• removal from the provisions of the regulations COVID-19 vaccines containing GMO or GMMO (DGR 3.9.2.5); and
• addition of Special Provision A220 to except packages containing COVID-19 vaccines accompanied by data loggers and/or cargo tracking devices from the need to bear the lithium battery mark.

In addition, the IATA addendum includes new and revised State and Operator variations and corrections to the 62nd edition of the DGR.

It is vitally important that you ensure you update all copies of your IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and other company documents (as is applicable) with this information.
