A record number of finalists have qualified for the Australian Aviation Awards this year, including heavy hitters such as Rex and Boeing Aerostructures Australia.

In total, a record 160 contenders are set to compete across 17 group and 11 individual award categories – the highest number of categories since the awards program’s inception.

The Australian Aviation Awards – which first launched in 2022 and is being run with support from principal partner UNSW Sydney – recognises outstanding professionals and businesses who have contributed to the growth of the domestic aviation industry.

The highly anticipated program will culminate in a black-tie gala ceremony at The Star, Sydney, on Thursday, 29 August 2024

The event will showcase the depth of talent across Australia’s aviation industry while affirming the sector’s critical role in connecting the nation to the globe and servicing the needs of millions of passengers.

Among the individual finalists who have qualified this year are representatives from Rex, aerospace component manufacturer Boeing Aerostructures Australia, drone surveillance program provider Australian UAV Services, and Adelaide, Perth and Cairns Airports.

At the end of the evening, the highest-scoring individual winner will receive the prestigious Excellence Award.

Several companies have also been nominated, including aerial services business Civil Aviation Academy Australasia and Nexus Airlines, as well as airports like Bankstown Airport, Essendon Fields Airport, and Launceston Airport.

The Australian Aviation Awards offers leading professionals and businesses in aviation the opportunity to highlight their achievements and build exposure.

Organisations that have received this accolade have distinguished themselves from their competitors by attracting and retaining the best talent and strengthening their position in the marketplace by winning and retaining business.

For professionals, recognition will underpin career advancement and offer industry-wide national recognition.

Judged by a highly regarded and trusted panel of respected professionals, business leaders and executives, entrepreneurs, innovators, and academics, the Australian Aviation Awards program provides peer-reviewed recognition of the capabilities of organisations and individuals in supporting the aviation sector and a passion for driving the industry forward.

The awards were open to all businesses and professionals across the sector irrespective of location, specialisation, affiliation, or alliance and have quickly become the benchmark for excellence in the industry.

They champion the industry’s leading players, including executives, aviators, trainers, technologists, technicians, crew, academics, students, and large and small businesses.

The finalists’ submissions will now be delivered to the panel of judges, who will assess each submission against the criteria of each award category.

The judges will score each part of the submission across the category’s criteria and provide an aggregated score. A number of judges will individually assess each submission for each category and offer a blended score and assessment.

The combined judging scores for each submission for each category will be tabulated, with the highest-scoring submission deemed the winner. One winner will be announced per category.

Winners will be announced at the black-tie gala ceremony at The Star, Sydney, on Thursday, 29 August 2024
